Designing Darktooth for a TMB sequel 9 out of 10 of my posts are controversial, and this is yet another. Okay, so maybe it's controversial in a good way because everybody here, I'd think, loves Darktooth, and he has yet to be featured as a playable character in a TM game. So my question to you is concerning the design of a Darktooth vehicle and character that would fit right into the "Black" universe. If you were to compare characters that crossed over from TM1 and TM2 to their TMB equivalents, you are sure to notice that they weren't simply dusted (well, "dustied" I guess... the vehicles are dirtier in TMB) and prettied up to fit in with the PS2's capabilities. No, in most cases, if they didn't go through a complete revamp, such as Outlaw for instance, after being a police car for two titles he was swapped for a police jeep instead; then the vehicle itself might have been slightly altered to suit the drastically different atmosphere that is "Black", but their specials and handling would have been altered accordingly. And this holds for practically every character. Even if you want to argue that Mr Grimm's vehicle hasn't changed, both his character and special have. His scythe may not exactly be a Screaming Soul at first glance, but when you try using it, it operates at least similarly (although more difficult to manouvre). So then if Darktooth were to be created for TMB, I think it's reasonable to conclude that he would have to go through a major "remix", if you would like to put it that way. There are a lot of possibilities. Firstly, Darktooth is a more advanced version of Sweet Tooth in TM2, so if this were to be preserved in TMB (TMB2, I suppose), would Darktooth be permitted a Mech of his own? How would it be different from Sweet Tooth's? Would he have alternate specials as well, so that his Huge Ricochets could be preserved too? Assuming Darktooth is a boss, how would he face off against Sweet Tooth? Would Sweet Tooth have any advantages when up against him? There are lots to be considered here. To some degree I prefer my second suggestion, namely to make Darktooth different from Sweet Tooth. Not because I like changing the vehicles themselves (I don't like TMB's Minion... TM2's is soo much more daunting) but mainly because I would prefer to see Darktooth and Sweet Tooth be closer to the same level in terms of potential, but very different when considering specs. This brings my final questions to mind. First of all, which do you prefer- the Darktooth that is more like TM2, in that he is a big version of Sweet Tooth; or would you prefer having Darktooth completely revamped? In either case, what kind of vehicle should Darktooth be? What about his special attack? And finally... who the hell should drive Darktooth? Would this rule Yellow Jacket out of a TMB sequel?? |
